No One Warned Me About Dark Souls

With the news of the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, I've been spending some time going back to play the original Dark Souls trilogy. For those who have been living under a rock, Dark Souls is a legendary game that's used as one of the main benchmarks for quality and difficulty in modern gaming. Why is this the case, what makes a Dark Souls so revered, and what lessons can we learn from it? In this video essay, I explore these questions, as well as analyze the specific things that I feel make Dark Souls special. I cover 3 main points that I feel make Dark Souls special, including it's Interconnected design, it's lore & storytelling, and it's approach to difficulty and challenge. There are lessons I was able to takeaway from it, both in-game and in life. Dark Souls, like other FromSoftware games, is an amazing game that everyone should experience at least once. If you're a fan of action RPGs, JRPGs, or have had the pleasure of playing any of the other FromSoftware titles like Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Bloodborne, Armored Core 6, or are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and haven't yet played the original Dark Souls - hopefully this video will convince you to try it out! Lastly, I plan to make more videos like this if you guys like them. I plan to cover subjects like Elden Ring lore, Dark Souls lore, Bloodborne lore, Sekiro lore and story, as well as the general story of the Dark Souls games and other similar RPGs.
