Ever heard of a gluten-triggered skin rash called dermatitis herpetiformis? It is a super itchy celiac rash that looks like eczema but is actually caused by gluten! This autoimmune celiac skin rash starts off as small, itchy blisters that eventually start to become open sores due to constant scratching. It’s crucial to know that this gluten skin rash is typically MORE ITCHY than eczema, and commonly found on the outside of elbows and knees (which is the opposite of eczema), as well as on the buttocks. Joining me to talk about the link between gluten, dermatitis herpetiformis, and celiac disease is fan-favorite guest Dr. Peter Lio, who is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology & Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
