The first ever BBC TV news report about coronavirus. Broadcast at 5am UK time on Sunday 12 January 2020. It came after Chinese authorities said a man had died from a "mysterious new disease" on 11 January 2020. Hours later, this piece by Rich Preston aired on BBC World News TV. At the time, Chinese officials said only around 40 more people were affected and that it was largely under control. They said it would be nothing like the 2003 SARS outbreak which killed 770 people. The story of an emerging virus had been covered by the BBC before this point, in online articles (like this one: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia...) and on BBC World Service Radio. But this report was the first BBC TV report on the virus. BBC News report by Rich Preston. First broadcast 0500 GMT, 12 January 2020.
