This Pontiac has another name beside the Silver Streak 8 and that was the Streamliner Deluxe. A carry-over from the 1942 model, it had additional brightwork and a interior that was more plush but more importantly the new automatic transmission, the Hydra-Matic was available. This Streamliner Deluxe model was a spacious and elongated 4 door sedan that was the largest Pontiac model offered, not forgetting the woody station wagon. There were 2 engines to power these Pontiacs: The L-head 6, 239 cid, 90 hp., and the L-head 8, 248 cid with 104 horses. This sedan started at $1,817 for the six, and $47 more the eight as this example is. This hefty sedan weighs 3,530 lbs., so I think the 8 cylinder would be best for hauling this huge car around. Forties cars seem to always have the bakelite plastic knobs and woodgraing dash which is quite cozy looking.
