Karura Forest - Opening the Matembezi Trail

As part of its 10th Anniversary celebrations, the Friends of Karura Community Forest Association, in partnership with the Kenya Forest Service, held a small but moving ceremony to inaugurate the Matembezi Trail, a paved 1.5 km circuit designed to give easy access to the forest to physically challenged people of all ages. Vincent Samburumo, representing the Westlands member of parliament, the Hon Timothy Wanyonyi, cut the ribbon surrounded by FKF and KFS representatives, and more to the point by dozens of PWD youngsters who could barely contain their joy at being in the forest, most of them for the very first time. This is in keeping with the new theme for the next five years for Karura, Outreach and Inclusiveness. Karura, the People’s Forest!
