The Bee Queen is the latest Don't Starve Together raid boss introduced in the "Cute Fuzzy Animals" update from A New Reign beta DLC. We solo speedrun kill the Bee Queen by day 6. The Bee Queen is quite a formidable adversary - especially 1v1. She has 22,500 health. Don't Starve Together's Dragonfly has 27,500 health for comparison. She has an insane attack range, and she also leaves a trail of sticky honey which hinders movement speed, making maneuvering and dodging her strikes even more problematic. The biggest obstacle to defeating the Bee Queen though are the grumble bee minions that she spawns. Bee Queen has 3 (technically 4) distinct phases. In the first phase, she spawns 4-5 grumble bees. You can kill all but 1 of the grumble bees in this phase, and she will not spawn anymore. In the rest of the phases, she will keep spawning grumble bees until there are at least 8 in her immediate vicinity. So if there are 8 and you kill a single grumble bee, she will quickly spawn 4 more giving you 11 in total to contend with. It's possible to get a ridiculous amount of concurrent bees if you put enough distance between the Queen and her current minions. The persistence of the minions is what really makes this a tough fight to solo. As soon as there are not enough, the Bee Queen spawns more. If the minions are frozen or asleep, she will wake them up lickety split. You don't get much breathing room to deal with the Queen 1 on 1. It's even worse in the last 2 phases when the Bee Queen riles her minions into a frenzy, causing them to go into hyperdrive and sting you relentlessly. It's easy to get stunlocked amidst the chaos. In order to deal with the Queen, I had to find some method of separating her from her royal flock of grumble bees. There are multiple ways of doing this (https://t.co/yiWtQpzNvF). For example, you can freeze the bees with a flingomatic, or put them to sleep with a panflute, but unless you have a lot of flingomatics and a constant source of fire (like from a Dwarf Star or a lava pond) the Queen will wake the grumble bees in no time at all. The method I use in this speedrun utilizes walls/fences and how bees interact with them. I have been a fan of Don't Starve megabases for years, so I was already acquainted with bee enclosures and the difficulties associated with them. When bees are totally enclosed with walls (or fences) they will pass right through them as if they aren't even there, but if you give the bees at least a single exit, they will then treat the walls as physical barriers, and only use that exit to travel in and out of the enclosure. With this quirk of the bee brain, you can manipulate their movement by setting them in an enclosure with a path to a single exit. So what I did was create a little enclosure with fences and a gate. I then created a single exit from that enclosure with a long, winding zigzag path that the grumble bees think they have to follow in order to get to me when I step outside of the enclosure through the gate. This gives me some breathing room to deal with the Bee Queen mano-a-mano.
