Guide on how to intall a 5.25" floppy drive. I needed to read and recreate old 5.25" floppies for my pre-PC era computers and HP instruments, so I got a few old floppy drives. I thought hooking them up was going to be a piece of cake. It wasn't. I got my fair share of "Floppy Disk Fail (40)" and "Disk Not Ready" errors before I could make sense of it. Before I forget what I did to eventually make it work, here is a video to help sort out the many 5.25" drive types, drive jumpers, cables and (old) BIOS settings. Part 2 shows how to work at sector level to read anything including non-PC formats and partially damaged floppies: • 5.25" Floppy Part 2: (very) low level... The black DD drive is a TEAC FD55-BR (needs FG and D1 jumpered) The white HD drive is a Chinon FR-506 (needs TM, DS1, MS1 and D-R jumpered)
