Wide of scene STORYLINE: Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived on Monday for a four-day trip to India that will focus on business ties between the world's two fastest growing economies, while seeking early resolution to political issues that divide them. No major agreement or breakthrough is expected to be signed during Hu's meetings with Indian leaders, but both sides say visits such as these create new opportunities for economic cooperation and help resolve decades-old political differences rooted in a 1962 border war. Relations have also been dogged by the presence in India of the Dalai Lama and 120,000 exiles from Tibet as well as Beijing's strategic alliance with Pakistan, India's archrival. China accused the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet's Buddhists, of being a traitor and attempting to split China. More than 1,000 Tibetans, led by Buddhist monks in maroon and yellow robes, held a protest march in New Delhi hours before Hu's arrival. Despite the political irritants, economic ties between the two countries have grown rapidly in recent years and two-way trade is projected to reach 20 billion (b) US dollars (16 billion (b) euros) this year, up from next to nothing two decades ago. The two countries already have a deal to work together to secure energy supplies, there's been talk of exploring a free trade pact, and earlier this year they reopened a Himalayan border crossing closed 44 years ago during a border war. The trip makes Hu the first Chinese president to visit India in a decade.
