By Ryan Huang SINGAPORE: The buzz over Singapore's first English animated feature is building up, ahead of its official opening on Thursday. A special preview screening of "Sing to the Dawn" was held at Jurong BirdPark on Saturday, and Singaporean author Ho Minfong was there to promote the movie adaptation of her book. Over 1,000 people trooped down for the screening, many of them fans of the 1975 award-winning novel. The coming-of-age story about a village girl, Dawan, who pursues her dream of studying in the city, has gone from print to stage, and now, the big screen. Ms Ho said: "I think it would be doing a disservice to the book and the movie to compare the two of them. They are both separate pieces of work. I think the movie has gotten the sense of who she is and of her spirit quite well. "They made use of the animation so there are a lot of visual gags, a lot of humour, with animals that talk. If I were to rate the movie, I would rate it 11 out of 10." The movie has taken over four years and S$7.5 million to produce. It is a co-production between Infinite Frameworks, the Media Development Authority of Singapore and MediaCorp Raintree Pictures.
