Ahead of the release of new video game Call of Duty: Ghosts, executive producer Mark Rubin introduces the real dog behind the popular new character Riley and explains how he has become such a hit. Riley the dog is star of the show in Call of Duty's explosive but familiar next-gen debut. The dog is based on a German Shepherd called Ruger who was put in a motion capture suit to track his movements. Mark Rubin, Executive Producer explains how surprised he was at the popularity of the new animal character. "We released our very first trailer and it featured Riley in a couple of scenes. The internet blew up. There was Twitters that popped up, people were taking pictures of their own dogs wearing similar equipment. It was a really big deal and totally unexpected. We were kind of like, 'oh my god.'" Ghosts is a whole new story for an Infinity Ward Call of Duty, leaving the US-Russian war of Modern Warfare behind. It's sometime in the future, and the US is no longer a superpower, torn apart by war with the Federation, a South American alliance. It follows two brothers that form part of a clandestine hit squad known as the Ghosts. It also follow their dog, Riley. The CoD dog has been a hit since it was revealed at Microsoft's reveal of the Xbox One. Riley's inclusion looks to mix in some differing game mechanics. At the start of the demo, you are connected to Riley's back-mounted camera, scoping out enemy targets by sneaking through the underbrush. You can either attack with Riley, tearing your foe's throat out, or mark the target for a bullet to the head. Call of Duty: Ghosts is released on November 5.
