They are young, still developing, easy to handle, and bounce back super fast. Male piglets are castrated so that they don't impart potential Boar Taint into the meat as they mature and reach sexual maturity. Boar taint can potentially render the meat inedible for some folks. Plus, none of these piglets are going to be rebred. Since pigs can begin breeding around 6 months of age there is no need to keep them in tact. As of right now this has been the fastest, simplest, and most stress free operation available that we know of and have tried.
