The felony complaint involves nine counts, seven counts of 288A in violation of the California penal code, commonly known as child molestation and two counts in violation of penal code 222 that involves administering an intoxicating liquor to a child for the purpose of committing a felony. Those are the nine counts. In addition to that there are several special allegations that have been alleged, some of which the jury, well all of which the jury, will have before them and the findings could make Mr Jackson ineligible for probation and could substantially affect the amount of time that he could spend incarcerated if the findings are found true." The nine-count felony complaint charged Jackson with seven counts alleging lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent. No specific details of the alleged acts were included in the complaint, which repeatedly stated they were committed "with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires" of Jackson. The complaint further alleged that Jackson had "substantial sexual conduct" with the child in February and March. At a news conference, Santa Barbara County District Attorney Tom Sneddon dismissed the suggestion that the delay in filing charges signaled a weak case. Sneddon agreed to delay Jackson's arraignment a week to January 16 and return Jackson's passport to allow him to travel to Britain from December 20 to January 6.
