A 60s Lounge cut with brassy charm, lively keys, and relaxed cocktail-hour feel. On this day in jazz history… On February 14, 1962, a date often associated with the final recording sessions for The Bridge, though studio records indicate they concluded on February 13, Sonny Rollins completed work on his landmark album at RCA Victor Studio B in New York. The album marked Rollins’ first recording after a three-year sabbatical, one of jazz’s most famous withdrawals. In 1959, despite widespread acclaim, he stepped away to deepen his craft, returning to live performance in late 1961 before entering the studio. Living on Manhattan’s Lower East Side with no practice space, Rollins took his tenor saxophone to the Williamsburg Bridge during his hiatus, practicing alone for hours above the East River. The album’s title honors those solitary sessions. Featuring Jim Hall, Bob Cranshaw, and Ben Riley, The Bridge revealed a master renewed by discipline and reflection, now regarded as a jazz classic. #60sLounge #CocktailJazz #VintageJazz #LoungeGroove #MidCenturyVibes #BrassyJazz #HappyHourJazz All music (including AI-assisted elements) and visuals are original, curated, and produced by Two Cats Jazz Radio.
