It's the 2025 MLB Season and that means that The 2019 MLB Draft was 5 years ago! It was the 55th MLB draft and consisted of 40 rounds, with teams selecting players from high schools, colleges, and other amateur baseball programs across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The draft order was determined by the reverse order of the 2018 MLB standings, with the Baltimore Orioles earning the first overall pick due to their 47-115 record. The Baltimore Orioles selected Adley Rutschman, a catcher from Oregon State University, with the No. 1 pick. Rutschman was widely regarded as the top prospect in the draft class, known for his exceptional hitting, defensive skills, and leadership. He won the 2019 Golden Spikes Award as the best amateur baseball player in the country and has since become a cornerstone for the Orioles, debuting in MLB in 2022. 2nd Pick: Kansas City Royals – Bobby Witt Jr. (SS, Colleyville Heritage HS, Texas). Witt, a high school shortstop, was a standout for his power, speed, and defensive potential. He’s now a star player for the Royals. 3rd Pick: Chicago White Sox – Andrew Vaughn (1B, University of California). Vaughn was a polished college bat with a strong hitting profile and has since become a key contributor for the White Sox. 4th Pick: Miami Marlins – JJ Bleday (OF, Vanderbilt University). Bleday was a powerful outfielder who debuted in MLB in 2022. 5th Pick: Detroit Tigers – Riley Greene (OF, Hagerty HS, Florida). Greene was a high-upside high school outfielder with a smooth swing and has emerged as a promising talent for Detroit. The 2019 MLB Draft is considered one of the stronger classes in recent years, with a mix of immediate impact players (Rutschman, Witt, Vaughn) and emerging stars (Carroll, Henderson). As of March 3, 2025, many of these players are either established big leaguers or on the cusp of breaking out, making it a pivotal draft for rebuilding teams like the Orioles, Royals, and Tigers. #baseball #mlbb #sports
