This rare original World War II propaganda footage shows the German Afrika Korps during the early stages of the Siege of Tobruk in 1941. After arriving in North Africa in February 1941, General Erwin Rommel launched a rapid offensive across Cyrenaica, pushing British forces back to the fortified port of Tobruk in Libya. Filmed in early June 1941 and originally shown in German newsreels, this historic archive footage includes: • General Rommel visiting frontline troops • German artillery bombarding Tobruk • Afrika Korps and Italian forces advancing through the desert • Stuka dive-bombers attacking ground targets • Rare scenes of the North African campaign in action The siege ultimately failed in late 1941 when Allied forces broke through, but Tobruk remained one of the most fiercely contested battlegrounds of the North African campaign.
