Freedom Challenge 2025 Part 1

The Freedom Challenge Race Across South Africa is a 2200km unsupported offroad event that starts in Pietermaritzburg (Natal) and ends in Wellington in the Western Cape. Your only guide on this set route are maps and a compass. You do have support stations on the route spaced at around 100km each where you can get food and a bed if you need it. By finishing the event you will get the coveted Basotho blanket that signifies your coming of age and therefore welcoming you to the Freedom Challenge Clan. It also always happens during winter, just to ensure it stays a challenge... It took us 15 days to finish our ride with some of the worst weather I have ever seen. Our aim was 14 days, but snow and wind slowed us down (plus some injuries to my brother). This is my 6th blanket and my brother's 1st, so please enjoy the snippets of the ride.
