Its name means "West of the Moyang River." Established in 1988 when Yangjiang became a prefecture-level city, the county seat is in Zhilong Town. This species is a highly valued edible crab found throughout the Indo-Pacific, from the Indian Ocean to the Western Pacific, including the southeastern coast of China, where it inhabits estuaries, mangrove forests, and shallow coastal mudflats. It is easily recognized by its massive, powerful claws and its dark green to blue-green shell. The mud crab is a prized delicacy in Cantonese and Fujianese (Minnan) gastronomy, celebrated for its sweet, succulent meat.
