The word, Orphanage has a way of eliciting thoughts of destitute children living in an Oliver Twist or Orphan Annie scenario. Orphanages, in some peoples minds, arent even that rosy of a setting. Our brains have a way of running amok with terms like Orphanage. We think of runny-porridge and children wearing tattered, dirty clothing. An overbearing person yelling at the kids and bossing them around when no ones looking, but gentle, polite and loving when people are in sight. Thankfully, the wonderful people of the Hyderabad Childrens Aid Society have taken the word Orphanage out of their dictionaries and replaced it with Hostel. Orphanage doesnt describe who they are or what they do at all. And its not a hostel in a sense of children checking in and out, but instead a place for these bright kids to live and learn in a stable and safe environment. So, theres no yelling or bossing. Instead, theres love and respect, and a family environment for hundreds of children with nothing close to a typical family.
