Heading to Utah | Ruidoso and Western New Mexico | Cortez Colorado

Heading to Utah 2025 begins now! In this first video of our brand new Utah travel series, Haley and I kick off an 11-day, 4,000+ mile road trip from Waco, Texas all the way to Utah. Today’s journey takes us from the mountain town of Ruidoso across western New Mexico and into Cortez as we position ourselves to officially begin exploring Utah tomorrow. Along the way, we drive US-380 through Carrizozo and past the dramatic lava fields of Valley of Fires Recreation Area, skirt the edge of White Sands Missile Range near the historic Trinity Site, cross the Rio Grande at San Antonio, and head west from Socorro on US-60. We pass the iconic Very Large Array radio observatory, stop for pie in the tiny roadside stop of Pie Town, travel north near the Arizona border, and watch the scenery change yet again as we cross into Colorado with hints of fall color appearing in the mountains. After checking into the Hampton Inn of Cortez, we wrap up the day with dinner at Main Street Brewery and Restaurant before getting ready to enter Utah in the next video.
