There’s something hauntingly beautiful about liminal spaces — those in-between environments where time seems suspended. They can be eerily quiet and strangely nostalgic: parking lots at night, abandoned malls, hotel corridors, empty theaters. These places blur the boundary between memory and imagination. The Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles is a building I return to often in thought and in person. Its mirrored towers, voluminous lobbies, and dated futurism make it feel like a massive, sculptural threshold — one that invites both awe and introspection. In this video, I: • Revisit sculptures from my past after spotting a store display that echoes them • Wander the strange and beautiful corridors of the Bonaventure • Remember a fateful afternoon at a TCBY where I identified a particular feeling • Wear L’Heure Perdue by Cartier — a scent that feels perfect for places outside of time • Talk about music that seems suited to these emotional thresholds, including the ambient work of Brian Eno • Shop for a garden hose at Home Depot • Ready my garden for the nightly, unofficial firework show in my neighborhood I also created a Spotify playlist called The Lost Hour – Music for Liminal Spaces, inspired by the light, water, and soundscapes inside the hotel. You can listen to it while driving, thinking, or waiting in between things. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6ow... Thank you again for the incredible comments on the last video — your shared moments of beauty brought me so much joy. I’m grateful that this little channel has become a space for reflection and connection. 📌 If you find inspiration in scent, music, memory, and the architecture of everyday life, please subscribe and join us. Thank you Carly Howard for the beautiful pre-wedding photos she took at the Westin Bonaventure. #LiminalSpaces #BonaventureHotel #LosAngelesVlog #CartierPerfume #AmbientMusic #BrianEno #ScentAndMemory #EverydayBeauty
