Welcome back! In this video, Jake and I completely reassemble the engine on this 4230. We bought a rebuild kit from Reliance that included all new cylinders, rod and main bearings, gaskets, and most importantly, high-compression pistons. 4230's are known to not be the best starting tractors, and the high compression pistons fix this problem very well. We have multiple 4230's here on the farm that are outfitted with these high-compression pistons, and they start with no hesitation on a 20 degree day (Fahrenheit). We should also see these piston's performance on the dyno. Along with all the new goodies, Jake went ahead and bought a new camshaft. The old one had noticeable wear, the worst lobe being about 25 thousandths out of spec, and chunks out of where is spins on one of the bearings. We checked liner heights and plastigauged all of the the necessary bearings. Plastigauging is very important to double check all of the machining work was done properly and that we ordered the correct bearings. We picked up the head from Mike's Automotive in Millstadt, Illinois where they magnafluxed the head to check for cracks and reground 10 of the 12 valve seats, the ones that needed it. We used new head bolts from Deere and ran through the torqing sequence. Jake set the valves but I did not catch that on camera. We wrapped up the day by installing the valve cover, oil filter housing, and the oil cooler. The engine is completely assembled where we knew it was all sealed off. With all of this done, we are now ready to put the engine back in the tractor and push the tractor halves back together. I hope you enjoyed this video, and I'll see ya on the next one!
