It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Late one night, at 12:27 AM on January 22, 2024, Patrolman Frank Skovran from Oceanport Police spotted trouble. A white 2022 Audi Q5 blew through a red light. It turned left from Port Au Peck Avenue onto Monmouth Boulevard, heading west. Skovran flipped on his emergency lights for a stop. The driver pulled over on Monmouth Boulevard. He approached and learned her name: Marissa Haugh. As they talked, Skovran caught a whiff of alcohol. He saw clear signs she might be impaired. Marissa fumbled to find her papers. Patrolman George Peacock arrived to lend a hand. She told Peacock she drove from Red Bank. Marissa owned up to drinking that evening. Sergeant Jeffrey Hanlon from West Long Branch Police showed up next. He helped with sobriety checks. Officers asked Marissa to get out and run the tests. They suspected she was over the limit. Hanlon began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Next came the Walk and Turn, led by Skovran. Marissa missed heel-to-toe steps. She forgot to count out loud. She quit early, before the turn. The last one was the One Leg Stand. Marissa failed to lift her foot correctly. They ended it quick. Her wild driving, the alcohol smell, her confession, and botched tests sealed it. Officers arrested Marissa for driving under the influence. Neither cop had Alcotest training. Skovran drove her to West Long Branch Police station for more steps. There, they read her the standard statement for drivers. She said yes to breath samples. The Alcotest showed 0.232% BAC—almost three times the 0.08% limit. Once done, they let her go to a friend. The friend signed the liability warning for her. Marissa got these tickets: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Careless driving (39:4-97) Failure to obey a traffic signal (39:4-81) Obstructing traffic (39:4-56) She had a prior DWI arrest in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, on March 31, 2023.
