Cervix is like a tube like structure. So when uterine womb is there and in the down part the mouth of the uterus is like a tube. So in normal conditions the tube will be tightly closed. So Cervical funnelling happens there is looseness or loss of impactness of the upper end of the tube or cervix. So it tries to funnel out in the early pregnancy or maybe in the late pregnancy, where the upper part will be open and the lower part will be closed and it looks like a funnel. This is called as Cervical funnelling. This can be made out in the ultrasound reports. So when we see Cervical funnelling in the ultrasound reports the gynaecologist or obstetrician has to understand that she may have to go for premature labour and has to adequately handle the case
