SOUNDBITE (English): Jim Yardley, of The New York Times, Pulitzer Prize winner for International Reporting in China: "I feel pretty good, it's funny that like a week after I won, I ended up having to pull an all-nighter to do a story, so I'm assuming you got to keep working, but you kind of wonder, okay, you're going to coast for a while now, but no, it's not going to happen, but it's been great, it's fun." 13. SOUNDBITE (English): Dana Priest, of Washington Post, won for Beat Reporting on CIA's secret war on terror: "Well I think it shows you that you can write about things that the government tries to keep secret, and that's a particularly difficult thing to do, it takes more time and patience and a lot more plotting, it's more or less typical investigative reporting, but I think it just takes extra time, and I think that it's well worth trying to do that." 14. SOUNDBITE (English): Jim Amoss, Editor of Times-Picayune in New Orleans, his staff won Public Service Award for coverage of Hurricane Katrina: "Our story is far from over, and for many of us, myself included, this will be the story of the rest of our careers, rebuilding New Orleans and dealing with the aftermath of a horrific event." 16. Exterior Low Memorial Library at Columbia University STORYLINE: The Pulitzer Prize ceremony took place on Monday in New York City after winners were announced on 17 April for the United States' most prestigious accomplishments in journalism. The Pulitzer Prizes, which were first handed out in 1917, were distributed to the 2006 winners during a luncheon at Columbia University. Among those honoured were the staff members of The Times-Picayune of New Orleans and The Sun Herald of Mississippi for chronicling the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina despite life-changing damage to their own homes and workplaces. Both papers were granted the Pulitzer for public service, which carries the prize of a gold medal. The other prizes come with cash awards of 10,000 US dollars. Dana Priest, who won for beat reporting on secret CIA prisons, said the sort of journalism required for a story like hers was worth the extra effort. "I think it shows you that you can write about things that the government tries to keep secret, and that's a particularly difficult thing to do, it takes more time and patience and a lot more plotting......I think that it's well worth trying to do that," said Priest.
