Hiking Laurel Falls Loop in DeSoto State Park, Alabama

In this video, Jonathan and some friends of mine hike with me on the Laurel Falls Loop trail in DeSoto State Park, Alabama past the Laurel & Lost Falls. Then we drove a few miles to see the impressive Desoto Falls. DeSoto State Park (#desotostatepark) and falls is named for Spanish Conquistador Hernando de Soto who was the first European to lead an expedition through what is now central Alabama–passing maybe 30 miles (50 km) south of this state park–in 1540. Today we hiked the Laurel Falls Loop Trail starting at the Country Store along the main highway and passing through some large boulders and rock formations until we reached Laurel Falls, a lovely 6 ft (2 m) tall waterfall over a sandstone ledge. We then continued up the creek valley until we reach Lost Falls which is a little shorter and about half the width of Laurel Falls. Then we hiked up to the Lost Falls Parking Area and then back through the forest, past the RV camping area, to the Country Store. Finally, we drove 5 miles (8 km) up the road and made a quick stop to see DeSoto Falls; a large waterfall that plunges 107 ft (33 m) into a nice round bowl.
