This week on Run Adventurer we're in Middlewich in Cheshire for a 7 mile circular route down the Croxton trail and along the Middlewich Spur of the Shropshire Union Canal into Middlewich. We then do a 3 mile circuit over the fields behind British Salt before rejoining the Trent and Mersey canal for the final leg with a brief diversion to visit the site of the Roman fort. History Middlewich has been the site of salt production throughout history, the Romans named the area 'Salinae' which roughly translates to Salt Works. The settlement had a Roman fort and lies at the junction of 7 roman roads. Salt production continues to this day, British salt extract table salt from brine under the brand name 'Saxa Salt'. Parking The route is based on parking at Croxton Trail on Croxton Lane. Alternative parking is available on Coalpit lane where we join the Shropshire Union Canal Spur. Please visit our site for full details of the route including map and GPX file. https://www.runadventurer.co.uk/walk-...
