Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, more commonly known as Six Flags or Six Flags Theme Parks, is an American amusement park corporation headquartered in Arlington, Texas. It has properties in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Six Flags owns more theme parks and waterparks combined than any other amusement park company in the world and have the seventh-highest attendance in the world. The company operates 27 properties throughout North America, including theme parks, amusement parks, water parks, and a family entertainment center. In 2019, Six Flags properties hosted 32.8 million guests. Six Flags was founded in the 1960s and derived its name from its first property, Six Flags Over Texas. The company maintains a corporate office in Midtown Manhattan, while its headquarters are in Arlington, Texas. Six Flags Great Adventure is an amusement park in Jackson, New Jersey. Owned and operated by Six Flags, the park complex is between New York City and Philadelphia and includes a water park named Hurricane Harbor. It first opened to the public as Great Adventure in 1974 under the direction of restaurateur Warner LeRoy. Six Flags acquired the park in 1977. In 2012, Six Flags combined its 160-acre (65 ha) Great Adventure with its 350-acre (140 ha) Wild Safari animal park to form Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari park. At 510 acres (210 ha), it is the second-largest theme park in the world, following Disney's Animal Kingdom. A separate admission from Great Adventure. The park has a dozen waterslides, a kiddie water play area, and a wave pool. In 2001, the park added another state-of-the-art roller coaster called Nitro. In 2002, Batman & Robin: The Chiller was renovated, and new trains without over-the-shoulder harnesses were added, making it a much smoother ride. In 2003, Superman: Ultimate Flight was added. Exact models of this are found at Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Great America. In 2004, new harnesses were added to the Runaway Mine Train, and the up-charge attraction erUPtion was added to the Boardwalk. In 2005, the park added the world's tallest coaster, Kingda Ka, and also dismantled Viper. With the addition of Kingda Ka, the season pass holders' entrance to the park was closed because Kingda Ka's footprint went right over it. A new children's play area called Balin's Jungleland was also added. In 2006, a wooden twister coaster called El Toro was added in the spot formerly occupied by Viper, along with a new themed area and another kiddie ride area to replace Bugs Bunny Land, which was retired at the end of 2004. In 2004, although DC Comics, Looney Tunes, and Scooby-Doo still had a significant presence, Six Flags began a new series of commercials for the parks. The commercials introduced a new mascot: "Mr. Six," a seemingly feeble old man in a tuxedo and red bow tie. In many commercials, Mr. Six would slowly exit a multi-colored bus, only to start frenetically dancing to the Vengaboys' "We Like to Party." The commercials were an immediate hit, and Mr. Six almost instantly became the de facto mascot. His presence was felt for years after the character retired. These ads have become widely parodied on the Internet, with faces from other Internet memes being superimposed over Mr. Six's face. From 2008 to 2010, Six Flags' TV ads consisted of a "Fun-O-Meter" in which the beginning of the ad showed something boring or embarrassing, and a man's face judges it "One Flag!" or sometimes " Oh! Two Flags!" Then roller coasters and attractions of Six Flags are shown, and say "Six Flags! More Flags, More Fun!" for Six Flags parks. However, the thick accent of the Asian man in the original commercials has drawn criticism for being an offensive caricature. In 2009, the Mr. Six character returned from retirement and replaced the Asian man in Six Flags' ads, still using the Fun-O-Meter. In 2011, Six Flags' TV ads got a brand-new slogan, "Go Big! Go Six Flags!" for its theme parks. Television Commercial TV Commercial TV Spot Dancing Little Six Song - We like to Party! (The Vengabus) Six Flags Artist - Vengaboys Album - We like to Party!
