It's been 100 years since white residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma laid waste to a thriving Black community, the Greenwood District, also known as Black Wall Street. An estimated 300 people were killed in the Tulsa Race Massacre during an 18-hour period on May 31, 1921. Thirty-six city blocks and over 4 square miles of the Greenwood District were destroyed by fires set by white Tulsans and bombs dropped by airplanes. To date, no one has been held accountable for the crimes committed. The history of the Tulsa Race Massacre was long ignored and not widely taught in schools. In recent decades, historians, researchers and reporters have worked to unearth the true story of this tragic event.
