Known as the "Century of Humiliation", the late days of the Qing Dynasty signaled the writing on the wall for the ailing empire. One needed to only give it a push. It all started when a local villager named Hong Xiuquan repeatedly failed his civil service exams to become a government bureaucrat. After a nervous breakdown, as well as exposure to Christianity which gave him strange visions, Hong would begin a radical new movement which would ultimately aim to topple the Qing Dynasty and bring about heaven on earth.
