Celebrate the exhibition "Edna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static" with us for this artist talk titled "Geometry and Contemporary Art". Contemporary artists Crystalle Lacouture, Odili Donald Odita, and Dyani White Hawk present their work, focusing on how geometric composition—a cornerstone of Edna Andrade’s art—is a means of connection to historical, ancestral, or natural forms in their respective practices. They will offer three perspectives on the possibilities of geometry as a specific and culturally rooted visual language. A moderated conversation with the artists and curators follows. "Edna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static" offers a new look at the practice of acclaimed artist and educator Edna Andrade (1917–2008). Presenting a selection of drawings recently gifted to the Harvard Art Museums by the artist’s estate, this exhibition emphasizes the central role of drawing and interdisciplinary exploration in her art and in modernist movements of the 20th century. The exhibition is view through January 4, 2026. #harvardartmuseums #artisttalk #ednaandrade Speakers: Crystalle Lacouture, artist; Odili Donald Odita, artist; Dyani White Hawk, artist; Mitra Abbaspour, Houghton Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Division of Modern and Contemporary Art, Harvard Art Museums; Madeline Murphy Turner, Emily Rauh Pulitzer Curatorial Fellow in Contemporary Drawings, Division of Modern and Contemporary Art, Harvard Art Museums; Opening Remarks by Sarah Ganz Blythe, Elizabeth and John Moors Cabot Director of the Harvard Art Museums --- Timestamps: 0:00:00 Welcoming Remarks by Sarah Ganz Blythe 0:02:22 Edna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static with Mitra Abbaspour 0:12:04 Artists Introductions with Madeline Murphy Turner 0:19:39 Crystalle Lacouture 0:27:22 Odili Donald Odita 0:41:33 Dyani White Hawk 1:00:25 Panel Discussion 1:23:00 Q&A --- "Edna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static" is made possible through the generosity of the Edna Wright Andrade Charitable Trust, whose extraordinary gift of drawings from across the artist’s career to the Harvard Art Museums demonstrates the Trust’s deep commitment to fostering the study of art for future generations.
