Will Cornwall be the Next Nation of the United Kingdom?

In July 2025, members of the Cornish Council voted in favour of recognising Cornwall as the fifth nation of the United Kingdom alongside England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Cornwall, known as Kernow in its native Cornish language, is legally a part of England, though it has a longstanding separate heritage rooted in ideas of a Celtic past and identity, the most visible element of which is the Kernowek language. Sharing close similarities with Welsh, it's no surprise that Cornwall was often known to the English as West-Wales. If the Cornish Council are successful, Cornwall could receive the same status as Scotland, with its own parliament and regional government, with the the power to decide legislature at home instead of centrally from London.
