Site planning and design for bushfire planning - Member webinar

0As a continuation of our national bushfire response and the recent release of our Acumen Practice Note on this subject, this member webinar focuses on site planning and design for bushfire protection. Since European colonisation, bushfires across Australia have left a consistent and destructive record on the built environment and the lives and communities that inhabit these spaces. Since 1939, there have been no less than 18 significant bushfire events of a magnitude that have warranted, state and federal inquiries and Royal Commissions - all in search of knowledge and answers in part on how to create more resilient communities. In response to these investigations, advancements in materials and building design and construction techniques along with improvements in planning systems have started to make inroads in the survivability of homes as demonstrated in most recent fires. Chaired by Michael Linke, the Institute’s General Manager of Membership, we’ll look at case studies and methodologies in relation to bushfire attack for siting and landscaping, planning and design, and the issues of active defence and emergency shelters, with a particular focus on residential structures.
