This is a long one, but I feel like I'm covering a lot of ground that I've been wanting to discuss. Advantages for city survival and country survival compared. The mindset is the same, the skill set is similar, and the tools really aren't that different. Early humans used whatever they could find to help them get along. They didn't need any of the modern conveniences that we have because of how they lived, so tools were generally awesome ways for them to harness and develop new technologies and tools, and to expand their life in terms of available food sources, heating, cooling, shelter, etc. For modern people, it seems near impossible, until you hold these skills and tools in your possession. Combined with the right mindset, all kinds of things become possible. I think that's really the reason that I dabble with ancient tech, not to show off some primitive hunter/gatherer skillset, but to refine my adaptive and survival thinking, tuning it toward some of the greatest survivors the earth has ever known. It is this mindset and these skills that will serve in an emergency, much more than the actual tools. Think like a caveman, and everything around you becomes a usable resource for accomplishing any given task. They'll help out in a SHTF catastrophe like a CME or Economic Meltdown as well.
