"I don't ask for much. A stool to sit on, a song to sing, and some folks gathered 'round to hear it." K.K. Slider "K.K. Cruisin'" from "Animal Crossing" composed by Kazumi Totaka Arranged by Elijah Brown (luminousmusic) ft. Trumpet - Daniel Martinez / lozootfan Trombone - Carlo Rabano / @carloplaystrombone Guitar - FoolishFrankie / @foolishfrankie As soon as Animal Crossing New Horizons came out I knew I wanted to do this tune! This is one of my favorite K.K. tunes along with K.K. Bossa and K.K. Disco (potential future videos???). But several of the K.K. tunes are really great. K.K. Slider is a pretty cool cat (even though he's a dog lmao)! Now for this arrangement. I originally wanted to orchestrate this tune for a big band, but I am not sure I am really ready for big band arranging yet. I would definitely love to get into it for the future though! So instead, I decided to narrow it down to jazz combo, because I wanted to include the brass sounds into the mix. For style, I was debating whether or not I should go for a chill type beat, or a funky shuffle, but considering this instrumentation I wanted to go with, funky shuffle seemed like the move. I also had a lot of fun experimenting with some synths for this one! You can hear them during most transitions throughout the tune, and especially in the chorus. It's really interesting, adding in those types of things just based on what I feel sounds good, without basing that off of sheet music. Next thing I wanted to point out, if you haven't noticed already, I recently purchased a new microphone and audio interface! This is the Audio Technica AT2020 XLR mic, paired with the Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB interface. Before this, I was using a Yeti Stereo microphone, which somewhat got the job done, but wasn't ideal. Plus, I didn't have a boom arm for it, so mic positioning was tough because I wasn't getting the height that I needed. Now with this new mic, I can get my recordings to sound very clean, which is obviously better than lower quality audio. Last thing to say, I am playing electric bass in this video! I've had this bass sitting in a case at my home for years, unused, and figured I'd just take it, haha. For a little bit I had been teaching myself some basslines, like just a Bb blues, or Blue Bossa, and figured that now I have this audio interface, so I can start recording bass! K.K. Cruisin' is a fairly simple tune when it comes to rhythm section, as it's just the same 4 chord progression over and over, so learning the bassline wasn't very hard. I don't think I will be using electric bass in my videos very often though, as I am not that great at it, so I may stick with using a VST bass depending on how playable the tune is for me.
