The portrait of Uniform British Coinage in India (1835–1947) was exhibited at the 17th National Numismatic Exhibition (NNE) 2026, held from February 20th to 22nd, 2026, at Shikshak Sadan, KG Road, Bengaluru – 560002. It was an immense privilege and an enriching experience to present this historic theme. The Uniform Coinage introduced in 1835 marked a defining milestone in India’s monetary history. It established standardised designs, denominations, and weight standards across British-controlled territories, replacing the diverse regional coinages that had existed earlier. Beginning with the coinage of William IV and continuing through Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, and concluding under George VI, this period reflects over a century of political authority, economic reform, and artistic evolution in minting. Though the collection of British India coins presented was limited in number, the historical narrative it conveyed was significant. The National Numismatic Exhibition (NNE), organised by Marudhar Arts, India’s leading numismatic auction house, has been a premier annual event since its inception in 2011. The exhibition attracts collectors, scholars, dealers, and enthusiasts from across the country. It features extensive displays of coins, paper money, and philatelic material, along with live auctions and academic sessions. Hosted in Bengaluru, a city known for its vibrant collector community, the exhibition continues to grow in stature year after year. At the 17th NNE 2026, presenting the colonial history of India through the evolution of uniform British coinage was a rewarding experience. The transition toward a unified coinage system from William IV to George VI represents not merely a succession of monarchs but a chronicle of administrative consolidation, minting advancements, and evolving artistic portraiture. The visual depiction of five monarchs across generations stands as a testament to continuity and authority during the British Raj. The engagement of attendees—ranging from senior numismatists to young school students—was particularly encouraging. Discussions on history, rarity, die varieties, and grading standards reflected the growing interest and awareness within the numismatic community. Sincere gratitude is extended to Mr. Rajendra Maru, Mr. Archie Maru, and the entire Marudhar Arts team for providing this excellent platform. Being associated with CollectNDeal as one of its Honorary Board of Advisors, the experience has further strengthened the commitment to actively contribute to the field of numismatics and participate in future exhibitions. #Numismatics #BritishIndia #BritishIndiaCoins ---------------------------- Hope you liked the video.
