NYPD officers restore historic patrol car

Thirty-seven years after NYPD Officer Eddie Byrne was assassinated while on duty, a group of retired officers and car enthusiasts are working to restore his patrol car to honor his sacrifice. Byrne was just 22 years old when he was ambushed and shot five times while guarding a witness’s home in Queens on February 26, 1988. His 1987 Chevy Caprice has since deteriorated after years of storage, flood damage from Superstorm Sandy, and even surviving a warehouse fire. Now, retired NYPD and Nassau County officers have transported the vehicle to Long Island, where they plan to restore it for display at the NYPD Police Academy. FOX 5's Michelle Ross has the story.
