This session builds foundational knowledge of culturally responsive teaching through four core principles– language, culture and history, classroom culture, and family involvement. Participants will explore how each principle supports student identity, engagement, and belonging, with a particular focus on family involvement as a critical pillar. In this session, educators will examine the essential role they play in building authentic partnerships with families and honoring families as experts in their children’s lives. By grounding practice in purpose, this session empowers educators to move beyond surface-level implementation toward more meaningful, inclusive, and sustainable culturally responsive teaching. A Part Two session is offered during Session 3, however, participants are not required to attend both sessions; each session can be attended independently.
