🎥 film: moonlight (2016) dir barry jenkins 🎧 music: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/cha... 📖 film review: moonlight follows a young boy, chiron, and his attempt at trying to live in a world where very few people understand him. the film is split into 3 acts: chiron as a young boy, a teenager, and an adult. honestly where to start, barry jenkins is a genius. the story in incredibly intimate and it's impossible not to feel some sort of protectiveness over chiron. in my opinion, moonlight is a perfect film. i can't think of a single scene that's wasted or misplaced and all the characters are 100% necessary for the story. this entire cast of black actors and actresses were kind of (they definitely were) phenomenal too. ashton sanders who plays teen chiron, even in the scenes where he's not talking, you can feel his exact emotions from his expressions and body. the performances feel so raw and real, you forget you're watching a movie. it felt like you were watching something in real life just play out in front of you. i watched this film when it first came out, thats 2 years ago now, and i still feel some sort of way when i think about it. its just a beautiful and stunning film that everyone should watch at least once. tarell alvin mccraney who co-wrote moonlight, based the film on his own un-produced play called 'in moonlight, black boys look blue'. would've been so cool if it did get released.
