My new Bruiser. The build is a dream. It is surprisingly capable, not quite like the Axials, but I wouldn't expect that. I ended up locking both front and rear diffs. One warning though, the plastic gears are easy to break (cheap to replace though), with diffs locked (and beadlock wheels which arrived after this video) I think that the slipper clutch is probably required; this is on order and I won't use the truck again until this is fitted. The body is at the model shop for painting (being a bit lazy), I'll do another video when this is done. The body in the video is from my High-lift, painted in Mountaineer colours - with repro stickers - this has been on so many different chassis over the years, takes a real beating & just comes back for more, not like the lexan ones. Likes: the build & engineering, the gear changing - especially between 2 and 4 wheel drive, the quite low centre of gravity, the tyres (quite hard, but that adds to the challenge & they look right. Not so good is the steering, I won't move the servo up front - as I want to keep with the concept as designed, but I have ordered a 3 racing metal steering crank, which is where a lot of the slop looks like it is coming from; with the front diff unlocked the steering is fine though. I've got a Tamiya 33 turn torque tuned motor up front, very powerful and about the right speed and a couple of Ripmax (501 and 502) Quartz servos on board (from Hobby Stores) - amazing value and very reasonably priced. I'm using a Spektrum DX3 transmitter, with the gear shift on button E which allows me to drive one handed (with the dog's lead in the other hand!). Was it worth the £500 that I paid for the kit? Yes, I think so, it is iconic, you don't actually need to modify it very much & I cant get enough of the Hilux hard body! via YouTube Capture
