Conrad, a non-binary poet and frequent Columbia University lecturer, conducted a public art experiment in which he used colorful bubbles to lure children near him on a street corner, then told their parents: “These are queer bubbles and they’re gunna make your children queer.” This disturbing project reveals the primary strategies of Queer Theory activism: overriding the public’s intuitive moral sense through ideological coercion and elevating identity, rather than behavior, as the basis for judgement.
