Research by Professor Peter Stone OBE, UNESCO Chair in Cultural Property Protection and Peace at Newcastle University, focuses on the obstacles to the protection of archaeological sites and historic buildings in zones of armed conflict. Once destroyed, cultural heritage cannot simply be rebuilt. Professor Stone explains how he’s worked with the UK Ministry of Defence and NATO over the past decade in an attempt to encourage the military to take cultural property protection (CPP) more seriously.
