Is The Body Real? ACIM 136 @DennisRodriguez-Meta

Lesson 136 of A Course in Miracles states: “Sickness is a defense against the truth.” This lesson is not saying that illness is imaginary, chosen consciously, or deserved. It is describing how the mind uses the body symbolically when it believes the truth would be too threatening to face directly. In ACIM, the body is a communication device. When the mind feels overwhelmed by guilt, fear, or responsibility, attention is shifted to the body as a form of protection. Sickness becomes a way to say: “I am not responsible.” “I am not guilty.” “I cannot face this right now.” This is not a condemnation. It is a compassionate explanation. The Course does not ask us to deny symptoms or refuse care. It asks us to gently question the purpose we have given the body. Healing, in ACIM, is not about forcing wellness. It is about releasing fear at the level of the mind. As fear is undone, the need for defense dissolves naturally.
