Video produced by national UN Volunteer Namchok Petsaen, Communications Assistant with the UNV Regional Office for Asia Pacific in Bangkok, serving under the UNDP-UNV Talent Programme for Young Professionals with Disabilities. In this video, produced as part of UNV’s video contest in partnership with Kopernik and RICOH to showcase how volunteering contributes to the SDGs, Namchok shares the challenges that persons with disabilities face in Thailand when infrastructure is inaccessible. Infrastructure is crucial to social functioning, with a direct impact on social wellbeing, income, education and health. People with disabilities are at risk of social exclusion if infrastructure is inaccessible, making it impossible for them to participate and contribute to society. Universal designs are needed in buildings, transportation, products and environments to make them accessible to all people, regardless of age, disability or other factors.
