Supervisors in West Manchester Township approved a zoning amendment to allow data centers, despite community concerns about environmental impacts. Malena Brown, Fox43, October 23, 2025 YORK COUNTY, Pa. — West Manchester Township supervisors voted unanimously Thursday night to approve a zoning amendment allowing data centers within the township, paving the way for a new development proposal. The company Veridian is interested in purchasing the Briarwood Golf Course property to build data centers. During the public hearing, company representatives presented their plans and fielded questions from residents. Community members raised concerns about how the project could affect water usage, the environment and nearby neighborhoods. Questions ranged from the amount of water the facility might use to whether a community benefit agreement would be included in the development. While Veridian representatives responded to many of the questions, some details remained unclear. “Many of those questions we don’t have answers to yet,” Charlie Courtney said. “But Veridian would be happy to communicate with as many people as needed.” Some residents also expressed worries about possible electromagnetic impacts from the data center’s operations. FOX43’s Malena Brown attended the meeting and attempted to ask Veridian additional questions but was told that only township residents could participate in the public Q&A. The zoning amendment’s approval marks the latest in a growing number of data center proposals across York County, as more communities weigh economic development opportunities against environmental and infrastructure concerns. FOX43 will continue to follow developments as the project moves forward.
