I am in the process of repairing a failed head gasket issue on my car. More accurately it was the head that failed due to poor workmanship by a well known independent Mercedes mechanic in Osborne Park Western Australia. The previous owner paid over $2000 for the repair last time, the head was not inspected by professionals in the field and was simply bolted down again with a new gasket. The head was corroded and also burned through one of the deep scratches straight into the water jacket put in it by the rotary cleaning wire brush used by the mechanic. In addition to this it was twisted and ALL of the exhaust valve guides were flogged out. Needless to say it did not last long before it failed again. All up there were many little problems contributing to the initial overheating problem on this car, none of which were addressed by the mechanic - instead of fixing the root cause of the problem, he simply fixed the most profitable symptom and left everything else as is. The crappy work was performed by the shop apprentice under the watch of the so called German Mechanic with 30+ years of experience. Previous owners loss is a prime reason as to why you should be very careful with whom you trust major repairs to and insist they are not done by the apprentice. The head as seen at the end was refurbished by Head Torque Osborne Park Western Australia and as you can see, they have done a fantastic job - they always do.
