If you have the 1st, then the later will make an appearance at some time. I’m more familiar with and have seen these pests infesting houseplants more than plants in the landscape. This is part of a plant pest series which I did about 4 months ago & then dropped the ball on these 2. Oops – better late than never I say! In my professional gardening days, I encountered aphids & mealybugs, spider mites & whiteflies, & scale & thrips much more often. Unlike all of those which hatch on the plant itself, the fungus gnats & root mealybugs hatch in the soil. The control for them is very different. Dealing with pests is no fun but it’s part of having plants. Keep your plants as healthy as possible & they’ll be better able to survive any infestations.
