Piaseczno is a rural village near the town of Sępólno Krajeńskie in northern Poland. My mother’s parents were from the village of Podolsze near the town of Zator in southern Poland. I traveled there in 2012 and 2015 and fell in love with its people. They are so wonderful. Believe me! My dad’s grandfather, Ambroży Jasiek (1820-1911) came to American in 1857 with his second wife and three children. Sadly, Theofil, the infant, died shortly after their arrival in New York. They emigrated from Piaseczno (not the one near Warsaw). Piaseczno is a small rural town near Sępólno Krajeńskie north of Bydgoszcz in northwestern Poland. It’s a beautiful part of the country, and I love it there too. When I visited the area, I stayed at Hotel Jan, a nice hotel located on a lake between the town of S-P and the village of Piaseczno. (All my life I yearned to visit every one of my ancestral villages.) To get to the village, I walked along the main road which was about 2 or 3 kilometers from my hotel. It was a pleasant walk but, when I got to Piaseczno, an elderly lady told me there is a much shorter route. She told me to instead follow a dirt road to the woods and take a trail that borders the lake. She said all the villagers get to town via this route and have done so for years. Nobody takes the main road! Then I realized that because it was the shortest route, my ancestors undoubtedly walked the trail she was describing to get to church or local shops in Sępólno Krajeńskie. I followed her advice and got back to my hotel much faster. I used it again the next day. As I walked through the woods, I imagined my ancestors were walking with me. They were happy to see me… I think; but maybe not because I tend to whistle a lot while hiking through the woods. After all, I am MrPoloniaMusic. :-)
