I've taken this ride to "Maryland's Loneliest Road" once before, but this time it was made quite obvious why it's also known as "Maryland's Sinking Island"... This "lonely road" once brought you to all three parts of Hoopers Island, but the lowest island is no longer accessible anymore, and even the second island is now halfway uninhabitable as it's slowly being lost to the tides as well. In fact, every year the islands lose over 24 acres to erosion, storms, and flood damage. And as you can see in the video...the damage and land loss is pretty evident. I can't say we were expecting to take the bikes swimming today lol This is definitely a must-do Maryland ride, and I'm stoked I was able to show it to ‪@therideofalifetime‬ while he was in town!
