On May 13, 2000, the city of Enschede in the Netherlands experienced one of Europe's deadliest fireworks disasters when S.E. Fireworks depot—storing 177 tons of fireworks in a residential area—exploded with the force of 5 tons of TNT. The company had dismissed safety concerns for years, claiming the warehouse posed "no hazard" to the surrounding neighborhood. Fire inspectors had approved the location despite it being less than 100 meters from homes, schools, and apartments. When a small fire broke out in the warehouse that Saturday afternoon, firefighters arrived expecting a routine call. What happened next was catastrophic: the initial fire triggered a series of massive explosions that registered 3.4 on the Richter scale, flattened 400 homes, killed 23 people including four firefighters, and injured 947 others. The blast was so powerful it shattered windows 8 kilometers away and created a mushroom cloud visible across the region. #disaster #Documentary #History #TrueStories
