We both had cameras running on our bikes, giving us the chance to review and present the ride from multiple angles and perspectives. The highlight of this video is what I’ve called: “The Anatomy of an Overtake.” As we exit a 40mph zone and enter the national speed limit, I begin to look for the right moment to overtake a line of three cars. A leapfrog move isn’t safe here – they’re too closely packed – so I need to plan for a clean overtake of all three in one move. When overtaking, your goal should always be to return to your lane safely – with a solid safety bubble around you. If that’s not possible, you wait. In this situation, I knew the fourth vehicle ahead was over four seconds in front, so my aim was to slot in safely ahead of car three and at least two seconds behind car four.
